Welcome to School of Thought
The process of school–the ways in which we build smart, brave and resilient girls and very small boys at Laurel School–is the daily work of our extraordinary faculty and staff. Each day, teachers invest in the progress and success of their students. Each day, the mission and the values of our school guide our decision making and serve as touchstones as we innovate and preserve. Great teachers and school leaders consistently ask questions and inspire their students to do the same. We do not rest on our proverbial laurels; instead, as a community we strive, raising the intellectual bar, encouraging students to reach and stretch for excellence in the classroom and beyond. We want our girls to thrive in every corner of the world, to be both at ease with and curious about people with whom they share commonalities and from whom they are different. We want them to solve problems, see themselves as difference makers, capable of using the tools of persuasive argument, and increasingly refined iteration to seek solutions to complicated dilemmas.
With this blog, we launch our own new chapter and invite you to draw back the curtain, peek under the hood, and get a glimpse of what happens backstage. Teachers and leaders whom you might be familiar with, as well as those whose writing may be less familiar to you will offer their perspective and good thinking about many aspects of the wonders of our school and our process of educating remarkable girls. Our goal is to utilize this blog as one more line of communication with our school community and beyond. We invite you to reach out with feedback or let us know if there is a topic you would enjoy reading more about. Just email us at SchoolofThought@LaurelSchool.org.
